Getting Started
To start off the quest, talk to the high priest in
Sophanem. He is at the north of a temple in the west of town.
He will tell you that everything is still the same as before and they
cannot get rid of the plague. He also tells you that there are many
people in the neighboring city of Menaphos who need to come back. You
will see a short cutscene of the high priest and his men going to the
bridge. They will ask to go in but the guards there do not and after a
while fire adamant arrows at them! Luckily they will run away in time.
Then, you will ask to help him but he will say that he has no idea
where to start! A choice of questions will come up. Ask him if there
are any underground passages under the city and he will start telling
you about lesser deities and so on. Finally, he will tell you about
the lesser deities temple being attacked by some kind of scarab things
in the northeast of town. He will also tell you to talk to Jex there.
The Maze
Once you get to the temple, talk to Jex. He will tell you how to enter
the dungeon. Go to the east and go down the ladder. You will arrive in
a room with a destroyed bank. If you do not have a light source or
tinderbox you can talk to one of the guards who will sell you a torch
for 200gp and a tinderbox for 50gp. Just to your east is a trapdoor;
go down it. The guards will warn you about the maze and everything and
then you go down. Welcome to the Maze!
Warning! The maze you have just entered is very dangerous and
you can die easily in here. Unless you are truly confident, do not
bring anything valuable into here. Bring lots of food and watch out
for traps! In the maze there are 2 kinds of monsters: locust riders
and lv.93 Scarab Mages. They can do quite a lot of damage, so try to
not get too near them. There are four kinds of traps: 2 floor traps,
wall traps and hidden trapdoor traps. If you walk past them you will
take up to 16 damage. There are also wall crushers which you will have
to sneak through. To find out more about the traps, go to the end of
the guide.
You have to get to a ladder (second from the bottom) in the southwest
corner of the map. You can use this map to get to the ladder.
Kaleef, Maisa and Osman
Once you go down the ladder keep following the pathway (there are no
traps so you can run without worries). Once you get to the end you
will see a dead body on the ground. Search it to find a scroll.
Go towards the black part on the map and talk to Maisa on the other
side of the ravine. After a while he will ask you about Prince Ali and
you will say that you once rescued him. He will ask you 2 questions to
prove this:
1. Where was Prince Ali kept? Draynor village
2. Who helped you find him? Leela
She will then tell you to get Osman. Now, you can either home teleport
to Lumbridge or use the dueling to the dueling arena. Then go to Osman
(northwest of the palace in
Al Kharid) and talk to him. At first he will not want to come to Sophanem
but after a while he will tell you to give him a good enough reason.
Tell him that his appearance might be a wedge between the two
cities. He will then tell you to meet him in
Sophanem. Go to Sophanem
and talk to Osman there. He will tell you to stay there and wait for
him to come back. You will see a cutscene of Osman sneeking up on Jex.
Osman will hit him on the head with a blackjack and go into the
dungeon.
The Giant Scarab
After 3 hours of patient waiting (not real hours), your character will
wonder where Osman has been up to. Go through the maze again (yes, the
whole maze), to the ladder. As soon as you go down it, you will see
another cutscene. Osman will be talking to Maisa. After a while the
screen will start shaking and Maisa will run away to a cave.
Osman will then walk away and some locust swarms will appear. They all
form together to make a lv.191 Giant Scarab!! The scarab will
hit Osman and he will fall to the ground. Your character will not be
too happy about that... You now have to kill it!
The
scarab can range from very far away so there's no point in
trying to get it into a "stuck" mode. Fight it your favorite way. If
you are maging or ranging it, use protect from range. If you are
fighting it with melee, use protect from melee. Try to kill it as fast
as possible because it will summon some other creatures to help it
after a while.
Here is a great strategy guide guide (thanks to joons) to fight the
giant scarab:
Once you have defeated it, Osman will appear and tell you take
Kaleef's dagger. Take the Keris, head back to Sophanem
and talk to the High Priest (you will need 1 empty slot in your
inventory).
Congratulations, you have just complete Contact!
