Karamja Island
Welcome to Karamja, a tropical island in the waters of RuneScape. Here you will
find work, shops, bananas, demons, fishing, and all sorts of quests and new
territory to explore. Karamja is an interesting area many find as a splendid
little island. This pictorial tour will guide you through all areas of the
island, and show you the scenery and facts you may have never known before.
We'll start out our journey with a boat trip from Port Sarim, Asgarnia, to the
wonderful docks of Karamja. This quick boat trip will transport you across the
ocean of RuneScape, and on to the tropical paradise of Karamja Island. The only
non-members? island besides Crandor (accessed through Karamja), adventure awaits
here. Pay a quick fee of 30 gold pieces, and get started!
This is the boat you arrived on. Sturdy, tropical wood supports the mast and
walking area. This is one of the few boats in the RuneScape world, and it's
built to last. Let's have a look downstairs.
Cannons on either side of you, one feels quite protected below the deck of the
Karamjan ferry boat. Not much to see here, let's proceed to the island.
Immediately upon entrance, you are greeted by a welcoming site indeed; trees of
all shapes, colors, and sizes, buildings of deep brown wood, and a friendly dirt
path leading on to the rest of the island. Apparently some RuneScape citizens
have taken up residence on the island; there are a few men and store-owners
wandering about.
Continuing up the path, we spot Luthas' little hut, a small house for this
Karamjan banana plantation owner. If you can't pay your ride back to the
mainland, you can always lend ol' Luthas a hand and pack the crate outside of
his house with bananas. Let's take a look at the banana trees.
Just outside of Luthas' hut is a banana plantation, where banana trees stretch
all across his land. Pick a banana to heal a few hitpoints, sell to the general
store down the road, or help out Luthas. Continuing through this yellow forest,
we find the fishing dock.
The fishing docks are the only place in nonmembers? world to fish tuna,
swordfish, and lobsters. Consequently, they are quite populated by eager
fishermen trying to get a good catch for the day. The talk down here isn't quite
intellectual. Luckily I had the text hidden, for the better.
Leaving the northern part of the island, we come across another of Karamja's
tropical, few buildings: the bar. Here you can purchase the ever-famous Karamjan
Rum for a few gold pieces. Be prepared for a search from the customs officers
down at the exit dock, though, because you can't take this specialty rum off of
the island. The tropical décor in this bar is nice, too. Let's head outside to
the patio.
The patio is also quite decorated. A few picnic benches make great quick
snacking points, and there're also flowers for scenery and a well to wet the ol'
whistle. The bar is a symbol of Karamja, but the smell of Karamjan alcohol is
getting to strong. Let's see what's for sale at the trading post.
Not a very crowded store, but a useful one: The one and only Karamjan free-world
general store. Tropical goods are bought and sold here on the daily; ranging
from fish to bananas to all the other trinkets general stores usually have. On
the counter, you'll find some trinkets they may be useful to you as well; a
banana, a rope, and a jug. Let's move onward.
An old forgotten part of Karamja lies in the sun all day to rot: the row boat
dock. A nice little boardwalk featuring some of the only row boats in RuneScape,
there isn't much going on down here except pleasant scenery. Into the jungle,
mon.
Now to the real part of Karamja, the jungle and volcano area. This jungle, not
too dangerous, is full of greenery and diverse species of wildlife, ranging from
trees to bushes to plants, and from monkeys to snakes. Though not very strong,
these small enemies can only be found on the Karamjan island. Saradomin may
appreciate you and your prayer level a wee bit more if you bury some monkey
bones.
Tramping through the jungle, one is often awed when he comes out of the other
side and sees a giant volcano looming before him. A deep and detailed history,
this volcano has been around for ages, housing ungodly creatures and red-hot
rivers of lava. You can find little imps running around outside, and their much
larger cousins inside. Don't slip. It's either a giant fall or a scalding hot
one.
Here we come to the island's red hot center, which, when viewed from above,
takes the shape of a fierce, horned demon. Quite pleasant. How a tree actually
managed to grow on one of those little islands surrounded on all sides by
bubbling lava I'll never know.
Now we get to go inside of the giant lump of dirt with streams of molten rock
running down either side. Here's the entrance, covered with dirt and rock, and
first-class entrance utility of: an old rope.
After a couple seconds of rope burn and pupil dilatation, we come staggering out
of the sewer-sized entrance and take a gander at the entrance to the fight pit.
If you listen closely you can hear the screams of agony and the demonic laughs
of its inhabitants. Good thing it's members-only. Let's move on.
Ah, some good in this cave of utter evil! Gold! One of the few places in
RuneScape where it is found in quantity. Usually not too populated, this is a
great place to mine. Just watch out for the skeletons lurking around behind you.
I think this shot sums up Underground Karamja: death, lava, danger, and fear. A
red spider scuttling past me, I struggle to maintain my balance on the narrow
strip of crumbly dirt surrounded by boiling lava on both sides. This was a
dangerous one. On to the throat-ripping, blood-red demonic monsters, then?
Bones littering the floor, giant demonic skulls laying about, fire runes
carelessly tossed into lava, half-dead runite-garbed warriors, yep, I think
we're here. The infamous lesser island of Karamja. These awesome beasts drop
great rewards, such as rune medium helmets, fire, death, and chaos runes, and
mithril accessories. That's assuming you can bring down the lava-spitting
blighter, which is about as hard as it looks. Have fun.
Staggering away from the bloody lesser demons, we come across the lair of the
red spiders. These mutated little creeps crawled out of the depths of Karamja,
only to fight anyone within a ten foot radius. Some mad scientist had a ball and
went and infected the blighters with radiation. This is the outcome. Take a
quick snatch for their eggs, which contain ingredients used in strength potion.
Finally, we reach our last stop of the Karamjan tour: the entrance to Crandor.
You must be a top-quest seeker to reach this area, where more enemies to kill
and adventure to partake in awaits. This is where our tour stops now, and if I
can survive the way out of this hell-hole, I might snap some photos of Crandor.
After a nice dinner of lobster and third-degree burn healing. I hope this tour
has left you with a sense of Karamjan adventure, tropical and deadly. The end.
