Mining

Introduction

Mining is one of the most popular skills in Runescape, it is also one of the best ways to make money. When starting out, you will only be able to mine a few basic things (Rune Essence, Clay, Copper, and Tin). Mining these will take some time to get your mining level up, but it is well worth it. Once you get to higher levels are are able to mine Mithril and up, experience goes fast and you are able to make quick money selling the ore. If you left click on a rock, two options will appear: Mine and Prospect. Mine does just that, extracts the ore from the rock. Prospect determines the type of ore that you have. If you right click on a rock you will automatically mine it, unless you don't have a high enough level. You will be able to mine ore whether you have a pickaxe in your inventory or you are wielding one. It is better to wield a pickaxe so that you can have one more ore each time than you would without wielding it.

Pickaxes

Pickaxes determine how long it will take you to mine ore. For example, you can use a bronze pickaxe on an iron ore rock and it might take a couple of swings to get the ore. If you use a rune pickaxe, it will take one swing almost every time to get the iron ore. Pickaxes can be bought from Nurmof in the Dwarven Mines, but it is better to buy off of other players because they will most certainly have a lower price. He has all pickaxes, bronze through rune, at his shop.

Rune Essence

The Rune Essence Mine can only be accessed if you have completed the Rune Mysteries Quest. Essence is used for the Runecrafting skill. You can only be teleported by certain wizards throughout the world of Runescape. Once you are in the mine, you have to go to a big gray pillar to extract the essence. You only have to click on the pillar once and wait until your inventory is full.

Gems

When Mining, you might happen to extract a gem along with the ore that you were mining. When you wear a dragonstone amulet, you have a greater chance of getting a gem. If you completed the Shilo Village Quest, you obtain access to some gem rocks, located in the Northwest corner of Shilo Village. You can mine every gem, except for Dragonstone and Onyx, and receive 65 mining experience.

Coal Trucks

Coal Trucks is a easy members-only way to mine a lot of coal without running to the bank and back. The coal trucks are located west of McGrubor's Wood. Mine coal until your inventory is full, the deposit the coal into one of the Coal Trucks, it does not matter which. Mine until there are 120 coal in the coal trucks. You can check at anytime to see how much coal is in the trucks. Once there are 120 coal run back to the other place to retrieve the coal. The building with your coal is located Northwest of Seers' Bank.

Mining Guild

The Mining Guild can be accessed from one of two ways. The first way is to go down the ladders behind Falador East Bank. The second way is to go through the doors at the end of the Dwarvin Mines. The Mining Guild contains many coal rocks and five mithril rocks. Its one of the worst guilds in the Runescape world.
