| Begin Quest: Start by speaking to Rat Burgiss who is located south of Varrock at the forks in
the road. |
Speak to Rat Burgiss, located next to a broken-down cart at the forks of the
road south of Varrock. He will tell you he was attacked by a band of outlaws and
that papers valuable to him were stolen! Your job is to get them back.
Rat will give you a folder in which you need to place five papers. Head
up to Varrock. If your agility level is high enough, walk around the western
side of the castle to the shortcut under the wall. If you cannot use the
shortcut, travel around the outer wall of the castle until you come to the
western side. Head a little southwest from the wall, and you will find the
outlaw camp. Kill five outlaws and retrieve the paper each one drops. Use them
with the folder until the folder is full. Take this back to Rat.
Rat
will take the folder from you and ask you to deliver a letter to Surok Magis,
located in the library of Varrock Palace. After a couple of insults, Surok will
take the letter from you, only to destroy it! Surok will tell you he's
discovered a spell that turns clay into gold bars, but to cast it he needs you
to retrieve a bowl and a metal wand infused with chaos magic. Surok will give
you the metal wand and Sin'keth's diary. He tells you to take the wand and 15
chaos runes to the Chaos Altar and use the wand on the altar. You will also need
to have either a chaos talisman or a chaos tiara to complete the infusion. Surok
also tells you of a tome somewhere in the library that will help you get to the
Chaos Altar while avoiding the wilderness. Search the bookcases until you find
the tome. Read the tome, and then read the diary Surok gave you. It tells of a
tunnel built under the statue of Saradomin east of Varrock that leads to the
Chaos Altar.
Follow the path east out of Varrock and head north. There
you will find the statue of Saradomin. Try excavating the statue, and Anna Jones
will tell you that you need a bronze pickaxe to excavate, due to the spells of
protection placed upon the statue. Acquire a bronze pickaxe and excavate the
statue. Climb through the open hole and now you will be in the tunnel! Make sure
you either have your chaos talisman, or you are wearing your chaos tiara. Also,
be sure to have your chaos runes with you. Follow the tunnel to the portal and
step through it. You will be transported one level above the chaos altar. On
your minimap, click the patch of dirt on the northwestern side that has the
ladder; this is the correct ladder you need to go down to get to the altar. Now,
use your wand with the altar. You should now have an infused wand! If you go
back up one level to the portal you entered through, you will be taken back to
the tunnel. However, if you use the portal east of the altar, you will be taken
to level 9-10 wilderness! Varrock teleport will be handy to have here.
Now, take your infused wand and the bowl back to Surok. He will tell you
he needs time to prepare his spell, and give you a letter to take to Rat. If you
read the letter, it reveals that there is a plot to overthrow King Roald! Give
the letter to Rat, and he will reveal to you that he is not a trader, but the
Commander of the Varrock Palace Secret Guard! Rat will tell you that the spell
Surok was working on was not to turn clay into gold, but a mind control spell he
plans to use on the king, and the components you brought him were the things he
needs to complete the spell! To undo the wrong you unknowingly commited, Rat
tells you to visit one of his contacts in Varrock: Zaff, the mage that runs the
staff shop just west of the fountain in Varrock Square. Speak to him, and he
will tell you he has created a spell to remove the mind control from the king.
For the spell to work, King Roald must be severely weakened. Zaff tells you that
once you have the king weakened, summon him and he will cast the spell. He gives
you a beacon ring and some instructions. Read the instructions. Now you're ready
to confront Surok!
Go back to Surok and talk to him. You will basically
tell him the jig is up! He will, of course, resist arrest, and he tells you the
king is under his control now. You must now fight King Roald (level 47). Fight
him until you get the message, "Now would be a good time to summon Zaff!"
Operate the beacon ring and Zaff will appear and cast the spell upon King Roald,
thus setting his mind right again. Together, the two of you will attempt to
arrest Surok. He will, of course, try to teleport out of the palace, but Zaff
has set a block upon the library, and Surok's spell is corrupted. Zaff tells you
Surok will remain in the library under guard from now on. Go back and talk to
Rat, and you're done! |
